I started as a total beginner – having never touched a sewing machine- with Mikala’s sewing 101 class. By the end, I had created a pillow cover and tote bag, and I had caught the sewing bug! Now I have just completed her 102 class and quilting class. I have learned so much from my time with Mikala, and I am looking forward to an upcoming clothing construction and sewing 103 class. Mikala is incredibly encouraging, clear, organized, and so easy to understand. She has a ton of patience, and she knows her students and designs classes that appeal to a wide range of interests and levels. Her classes are small in size allowing for plenty of one on one attention. I have tried sewing classes at other places and believe Mikala offers the perfect environment for a beginning sewer to learn and grow. So glad I found her.

I had an amazing afternoon at the Creative Letter Writing Workshop with Bill Clark at Mikala Cash Designs. Two words come to mind instantly: creativity and nostalgia. Bill guided the group through 3 hours of fun as we put pen to paper and explored new and creative ways to write. In this fast-paced, high-tech age, it made me appreciate the lost art of letter writing and how truly special it is to see a written word. I look forward to my next class Bill. He’s an encouraging, easy-going, and talented artist and teacher.

I finished Mikala’s intermediate (103) class last week. There were five projects that students could choose from, so the class offered some flexibility, while also providing enough structure that I didn’t feel overwhelmed. I leaned some new skills (properly using a pattern, bias tape, and fusible interfacing) and worked on some skills that needed help (sewing a straight line!). The small class size allowed her to spend time answering each student’s questions and offering suggestions for the best way to approach a task. Additionally, when a student worked on a technique that wasn’t included in everyone’s project (e.g. turning a strap, making a ruffle), she made sure everyone came together to see how it was done. That way, everyone was exposed to techniques beyond those necessary for their own projects. Absolutely recommend taking classes here!

I had been wanting to take some type of sewing class for sometime, as I have a huge interest in crafting and “diy” projects however I didn’t know the first thing about sewing. A girlfriend of mine suggested Mikala Cash’s beginner sewing 101 class and I thought how perfect that would be- the price was right and the studio is minutes away from where I live.
I found myself in a small class of 6 women who were all on the same level as me. Mikala took her time to explain not just how to thread a sewing machine but the actual ins -and – outs of sewing. I learned everything from basic sewing definitions to all types of different materials I might come across when sewing on my own.
I’ve now taken 3 classes of Mikala’s and absolutely would reccommend her to anyone who has an interest in sewing- whether you have experience or not. With each class I’ve taken, she introduces more techniques and challenges but still takes time to to make sure the “sewing basics” are there. Mikala is EXTREMELY patient, energetic, and encouraging. You can certainly tell she not only loves sewing but loves teaching others the skills that she’s mastered.

I found Mikala’s sewing lessons after doing a little research and reading reviews online. She offers many levels of classes but since I was basically brand new to sewing, I took her beginning 5 session course. She is very welcoming and very patient with her students… I was new to town (just moved from CA) and late the first class. Although I felt horrible she assured me it was o.k. and quickly got me up to speed on the first lesson. By the way, if you don’t have your own machine, you can use one at the studio, it’s $5 to use the whole course. I actually wound up buying an old school one Mikala was selling and was able to use that during the course and get to know how to use it. She’s got a pseudo-museum going on of sewing gadgets, machines, as well as examples of her finished projects, throughout the studio.
After 5 classes I can gladly say it was worth while. I highly recommend her class as she is very one on one if you need help… and I did because I cut a few pieces wrong and she able to troubleshoot, saved the botched fabric from the trash and in the end it was fairly easy and came out looking professional. Mikala constantly gives the class her insider tips from her own experiences, which makes her classes a cut above the rest (pun intended
. Also, we came home with 2 finished projects, a cowl scarf, and a tote bag, and step-by-step instructions she created for us to do again at home.
I gave the tote bag to my Mom for Christmas and she didn’t cry but I could tell it meant a lot to her. She showed it to my grandma back in CA and she was shocked that I made it… I’m a mini-pro now, thanks to Mikala
Enjoy her classes and soak up her knowledge!

I am about to start my third sewing class with Mikala and she is absolutely amazing. She goes out of her way to help all students. I have made pillows, a tote bag, and an apron so far and I had no experience. Mikala is very knowledge about machines and when my old machine had issues, she worked with me to make sure I was able to complete my projects. All projects come out looking very professional to the point that I am making a few of my Christmas gifts with patterns she taught us!

I’ve been meaning to write to thank you for another great class! Not only did I gain new skills & confidence in tackling projects/patterns, but I also had a great time meeting the other ladies and seeing their interpretation of the projects. I appreciate your taking time to help me with outside of class projects that last class. I did not mind at all waiting as I knew others were eager to complete their projects on time. If anything, I hope I didn’t take too much time away from them with my questions!
Anyway… Thanks again for being such a great teacher! I look forward to hearing more about the open studio!

I am currently taking a beginner sewing class with Mikala Cash and it is fun and refreshing! I’ve had a little experience with sewing prior to this class, but Mikala gave me the confidence to really dabble into what I’ve wanted to for so long. Her classes are small, and you get the one-on-one attention you need. Before I had signed up for her class, I wasn’t sure which day or time would work into my schedule, but she was determined to find me a class. I am almost through my beginner class, but I am eager to take another class with her immediately. Her creativity and passion for sewing clearly show when she teaches and it makes her students get excited about what projects they’re accomplishing!

I always wanted to learn to sew. One of the things that was on my bucket list. After retiring, I signed up for sewing lessons with Mikala. I can’t believe what I have learned to do with just a few lessons. Mikala is very patient and very encouraging. The classes are small and she paces herself to give everyone some individual attention. I am looking forward to my next session.
